The sable (or black) antelope lives in forested savannahs close to water, as unlike other antelopes, its need for liquid is great. It is a sociable animal and moves in flocks of 10 to 20 heads guided by a dominant adult male. Its antlers, in the shape of a scimitar, measure 1,10m in the male and 0,65m in the female. Recently its number has diminished a lot due to hunting, as its meat is edible. It belongs to the group of horse antelopes due to their likeness.
