Due to its precarious conservation status, in 2005 the Bonelli's Eagle was chosen as "Bird of the year" by Seo/BirdLife.
The Zoo Aquarium of Madrid will inaugurate the exhibition "Bonelli's Eagle, an endangered species", put together by SEO/BirdLife and the Territori I Paisatge Foundation of the Obra Social Caixa Catalunya.
The exhibition consists of 12 panels which bring home the reality of the Bonelli's Eagle from different points of view. The content is divided into three areas. The first describes the biology and ecology of the species, as well as its life cycle. The second part centres on its conservation and the results of campaigns carried out to date. The third section describes the current status of the Bonelli's Eagle, its threats and current conservation proposals.
In 2005 the Bonelli's Eagle was chosen as "Bird of the year" by SEO/BirdLife, organization which for the last 17 years selects a species of Spanish avifauna that requires special attention due to its precarious state of conservation.
The exhibition will remain at the Zoo Aquarium of Madrid until the 7th of February of 2007 and can be seen free of charge by the entire public of the Zoo Aquarium of Madrid. It is intended to be a tool to communicate the status of this bird and the conservation initiatives undertaken by many institutions.
