  • Curso Auxiliar Tecnico Zoo y Acuarios | Zoo Aquarium de Madrid
    From November to April

    Forming part of the Continuous Training programme of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the University Diploma for Zoos and Aquaria Technical Assistants is designed for those who want to develop a professional career as curators and keepers of animals in this type of park. The training, which is eminently practical, lasts for six study months, from November to April, and in organised over a total of 438 hours (43 credits): 81 hours of theory and 357 hours of practicals.

    Madrid Zoo Aquarium collaborates with Complutense on this course, which is aimed at the general public, especially at those who would like to become assistant technicians in zoos and aquaria. The assessment includes two tests of exercises: a theoretical examination and submission of a report in which the students set out the practicals carried out in the park. A minimum attendance at 85% of the scheduled teaching hours is needed.

    Among other content, the diploma covers training in areas related to the behaviour of wild animals, the problems that arise in captivity, the veterinary difficulties and handling of individuals. Animal welfare in zoos, the functions of the personnel of a zoo or aquarium also focus the programme of this long-duration specialist training.
